Heat, swelling, pressure, and redness. No, I am not describing how diamonds are formed. Unfortunately, I am describing the painful symptoms of arthritis. Good news though, we live in the year 2019!
The dawn of the age where we can treat our pain and ease our symptoms without the use of pharmaceutical painkillers. Who-hoo!
For those who do not know, arthritis is the inflammation in a joint that connects two bones. The most common places for arthritis to form in the body are the knee, wrist, finger, back, and hip joints.
Arthritis doesn’t just spring up overnight. No, it begins with a subtle ache or a small bout of swelling.
Then, it slowly develops into non-stop agonizing aches, swelling, stiffness and pain.
Eventually, you end up avoiding any activity that can trigger a flare-up. Also, your daily life (aka: your social life) goes right down the tubes.
Can you believe it? A neuropathic disease causes physical symptoms to the point that physical symptoms create mental illness like depression, stress, and anxiety due to loss of quality of life. Trust me. I write from first-hand experience (no pun intended).
Being a writer by both trade and passion, there has been more than one occasion where my fingers or my wrists seize up, starts to swell, and begin to throb uncontrollably.
In the US alone, over 45 million people suffer from one form of arthritis or another. CBD (cannabidiol) affects receptors in the immune system and in the brain, which can promote the reduction in inflammation and neurological diseases.
CBD has the potential to prevent neuropathic pain thanks to its anti-nociceptive and anti-inflammatory properties regarding many forms of arthritis.
A study conducted on CBD and its effectivness against osteoarthritis (OA) showed that it can prevent nerve damage and pain.
CBD can stop pain associated with arthritis. While there is not enough scientific research, many users report that the development of pain and nerve damage associated with arthritis was reduced.
This single study concludes that CBD is possibly a safe and useful treatment for OA and other neuropathic pain.
The Science Behind the Use of Using CBD for Arthritis
The first controlled clinical trial of the use of cannabinoid-based medicines to treat arthritis took place in 2006.

How to Use CBD for Arthritis Pain
There are various methods to treat both the physical and mental symptoms of dealing with arthritis. You’ve done the research, and you have spoken with your doctor. Well, now what?
Let’s roleplay! You have done your due diligence, you have found the best CBD oil that has been grown organically and has zero heavy metals, pesticides, and herbicides.
Now, it’s time to take your medicine. I use italics because to some people CBD is not simply medicine, it is apart of their life balance.
What is the best way to take CBD?
I wish I could tell you something simple. Just use a roll-on, or it is best to use a vape pen. Actually, fortunately, we are all different. This is why you must experiment with different methods. Because what I choose may not be the same as what you choose. You will figure out the best method of consumption.
Whether that is a CBD oil/tincture, vape pen, or topical product, often, it is best to combine methods to receive a well-rounded therapeutic approach to your arthritis.
Speaking from experience, I will use a topical balm for soothing relief, but I will also use a vape pen to ease the INSANE pain of a flare-up (simply so I can keep on writing and help inform you).
However, you may benefit from using a tincture (CBD oil) a few times per day and only opt for a vape pen when the pain is too much to handle.
How much CBD oil should I take?
I don’t know. How much CBD oil should you take? Because of our ailments and symptoms are vastly different, I cannot give you a straight answer. What I can tell you is there are three ways to be successful in incorporating CBD into your anti-pain arsenal:

How long does it take to feel the effects?
If you are using a tincture sublingually or you are vaping CBD, you may ease the pain within minutes.
However, if you opt for an edible or a topical that is not transdermal, you may expect to wait up to an hour before you feel any comfort.
This is because of your liver and digestive system. If you need immediate relief I would suggest using a CBD product that bypasses the digestive system and penetrates the bloodstream.
So, What’s the Deal?
See, the thing is, with proper cannabinoid therapy, you get to the root cause of the problem and no longer have with the symptoms (amen!).
CBD works on receptors our body already possesses. CB1 and CB2 receptors live within our body and regulate many vital functions.
Our endocannabinoid system regulates our digestive, immune, and cardiovascular systems. Finding balance means more than being happy and taking deep breaths.
Finding balance is something our bodies do on a natural and consistent basis. It is the essence of our existence-homeostasis.
